Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Safety Manager to be a key leader at our Greenville Lumber facility (Grifton, NC) and ensure all safety expectations are met for the manufacturing site.
As Safety Manager you will provide leadership, coordination, and technical expertise in all areas of safety, health, and industrial hygiene compliance to achieve excellence.
In addition, you will establish reliable methods for improving safety performance and nourishing a culture in which safety is an overriding value in all activities and every associate assumes accountability for safety initiatives and expectations.
You will also ensure the mill is following OSHA regulatory expectations as well as business and Company guidelines and initiatives.
This position reports to the Greenville Unit Manager.
Key Functions The essence of this role requires a highly motivated, people-oriented person for the proactive, practical application of safety commitment to the operation and day-to-day behaviors of all associates.
This individual will provide leadership in developing, implementing, and managing safety policies, procedures, practices, and projects.
Accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:
Site role model for safety and safety initiatives Responds to & participates in the investigation of safety incidents and interacts with the designated Emergency Response Team Make safety priorities and performance visible Leads & develops new hire safety and contractor orientation activities Coaches and works with mill leadership to be a visible role model of incident prevention and safe work practices Provides technical support for on-going problem solving and safety investigations Ensure systems are in place for an effective safety program while maintaining compliance with regulatory/corporate guidelines, applicable record keeping, reporting, safety statistics and trend analysis Schedules, develops, and conducts monthly safety training for all associates on a variety of topics Serves as a contact for corporate business & regulatory agency requests and inquiries Involves & engages associates in developing an associate-driven safety program, to include safety processes and performance measures Provides leadership to unit safety team Provides on-the-floor safety coaching and recognition Assists in developing safety plans for capital projects and other unit initiatives Qualifications BS/BA related degree with 3
years of experience preferred or 6-10 years of experience if you do not hold BS degree.
Good working knowledge of OSHA regulations/requirements Passion for safety as demonstrated by a strong commitment to associate safety Understands safety processes and ability to complete an internal audit/review Experience in leading and/or participating in safety Incident Investigations Knowledge of chemical and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) systems management Ability to develop and effectively deliver safety training Project management skills to include strong leadership with the ability to develop and implement safety processes Strong, engaging, people-centered leadership style Proactive, assertive and ability to work with a sense of urgency Ability to plan, prioritize and work under pressure and meet deadlines Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of health & safety software programs High level of integrity, strong work ethic, good judgment and problem-solving skills Willingness to work extended hours should situation warrant Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or related field and 1-3 years manufacturing/industrial experience working in the Safety field OR demonstrated 6-10 years manufacturing/industrial experience working in the safety field, preferably for wood products manufacturing in lieu of college/university degree Additional safety training and certification (OSHA, CSP certification, etc.
) a plus.
What We Offer:
Compensation:
This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $72,700 to $109,000 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience.
You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay.
Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation:
We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with paid vacation for up to 3 weeks to use during your first year of employment.
In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use.
